This gallery has changed formats. In late January 2001 I began rolling the InDepth gallery into the main galleries. All images are now viewed by the Java Stereoscope Applet by Andreas Petersik, i.e., a window will pop up for you to view the image in your choice of format. DepthCharge is no longer supported (they did not support their product, and only very recently did they introduce a beta version of their product- much too late for me to work with). Anyways, everyone has Java, and nearly everyone has it enabled. You have nothing to install to view these higher resolution pictures.
These images are no longer separate from the main galleries- they are rolled in throughout the galleries. There is much more content in an InDepth entry. A "normal" entry contains just a photo and a small caption. An InDepth entry contains a much longer caption, usually several maps, an annotated image where needed to explain what is in the picture, and a 2D pop-up photo album, which contains up usually 6-12 additional photographs in 2D from the area.
All
InDepth entries are marked by this icon. The red border is a warning, if
you will, that the graphic load of that page is higher than normal, and the JPS
images are double the resolution of the "normal" entries. There
is a yellow bordered version of this icon as well- that indicates a JPS image
only (higher resolution, but no maps, photo album, annotations), but that is not
part of these galleries.
Click on the gallery icons below to enter and see the very best images of this site. The number of InDepth entries will be limited to 3-4% of the site for that reason.
