Ouro Prêto, Brazil
Looking straight down from my hotel balcony, you see these vendors and what- another church!  The vendors are selling various items carved of soapstone- a stone that derives it's name because it's only slightly harder than soap.  It is easy to carve, and makes for nice items to bring home.  You can buy vases, chess boards, and myriad other items carved out of the greenish-gray stone.
