Great Sand Dunes National Monument, Colorado
The Great Sand Dunes are a result of wind erosion of the Sangre de Cristo mountains in south central Colorado.  The conditions have to be just right for these to form- the location near the mountains, the composition of the mountains, and the amount of wind in this area.
