Garden of the Gods, Colorado
Colorado Springs is one of those cities that is sort of a secret.  Many people drive right on through on their way to Denver, at the most, stopping in for Pike's Peak.  However, I have lived here and seen what this city of about 400,000 has to offer.  Parks.

There are over 400 parks in this city- one of the highest ratios.  I am not talking your neighborhood parks.  Of course, there are those as well, but Garden of the Gods is nothing more than the most majestic city park on the planet.  It deserves National Monument status, but alas, the city pays its upkeep.  There are other very large parks as well, both inside the city and all around its perimeter.  This park is chock full of tall, red monoliths, from which you can photograph, climb (there are many rock climbers here), or simply just hike around and enjoy.

I was rather fortunate on this shot.  I took a weekend trip to Colorado to try to catch some fall colors, and when I awoke in the morning (in late September), there had been this nice, fluffy snowfall.  It had not stuck to the rocks, but instead melted and gave them a sheen, while sticking to the bushes for a really nice contrast.  The distant mountain at the left side of the picture is Cheyenne Mountain, the location of NORAD, the early warning defense system, which is inside the mountain.
