Craters of the Moon National Monument, Idaho
Craters of the Moon National Monument is aptly named. OK, there are plants
that grow there, so the comparison shouldn't go too far, but save for the blue
sky and lack of a space suit on my girlfriend, this photo could be on the
moon. Gail's in the picture to provide a sense of scale on this mountain
of cinders, spit up by Earth within the past 2000 years. This cinder cone
is descriptively named Inferno Cone.
