Fayetteville, Texas
While driving through southern Texas on my 2001 wildflower and courthouse quest, we stumbled through this little, tiny town of Fayetteville in Fayette County.  Usually, you would think that Fayetteville in Fayette county would be the county seat, but alas, it is not.  It may very well have been, and this could even have been a simple courthouse way back when, but in the mid-to-late 1800's, Texas law changed and many county seats shifted to towns nearer the geographical center of the counties (not all counties moved- it was determined in a referendum whether or not to do so).  So, I suspect that this town was.  It now has just over 200 people living there.  It is like stepping back 100 years in time, and it is a great little place to visit.  It has a pristine town square, with the city hall in the center (shown here).
