Browser Tips

This site is rich in photographic content, and therefore, should be viewed at high screen colors (16-bit or greater), and at 800x600 or higher.  You have difficulty viewing them at 640x480.  As such, I have made efforts to keep the photos in this site viewable on the main browsers and on as many screen sizes as possible.

There are two image formats- cross-eyed and JPS images.  The cross-eyed pictures are sized at 750x375 (750x562 for vertical photos), but can be enlarged to 1000x500 (1000x750 vertical) by simply clicking on the image.  The JPS images are mostly 900x600 (600x900 vertical) and will be opened by a Java Applet and will size to fit your screen, or 100% of the image size- whichever is smaller.

You will have to have Java enabled to view the JPS images.   I would also recommend you have JavaScript enabled so that you can view the 2D Photo Albums in the InDepth galleries as well.

Netscape
I recommend you use Communicator version 4.75.

To enable Java and JavaScript in Netscape 4.xx, follow the screen shots and make sure the boxes circled in red are checked.

At the top of your browser, select Edit->Preferences, as shown to the right.
Click on Advanced and then make sure that Enable Java and Enable JavaScript are checked.  Then click    OK

If you are having problems reloading a page in Netscape- here is one other tip:  Try pressing the SHIFT key and then pressing the reload button.  It is a hidden feature that Netscape calls "Super Reload."  It causes the entire page to be reloaded from the server.

Internet Explorer
If you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, I recommend version 5.0 or higher.  Version 3.0 does not support Java, so you will need to be at the very least 4.0 to see them.

To enable Java and JavaScript in Internet Explorer 4.0 or 5.x, follow the screen shots and make sure the box circled in red is checked.

At the top of your browser, select Tools->Internet Options, as shown to the right.
Once you have the dialog box up, click on the  Advanced  tab and scroll down until you see Microsoft VM.  Make sure that the JIT Compiler box is checked (JIT= Just In Time, Java-speak for the fact that Java is in byte code and not "compiled" until run on your machine).  Then click    OK

AOL
America Online 5.0 and 6.0 use Internet Explorer as its browser (albeit a somewhat stripped-down version).  AOL 3.0 uses IE 3.0, and I recommend you upgrade to the newest AOL version.  Please see the AOL page for more details.
