Beachcomber Island, Fiji
This is the beach on the "backside" of the island- away from the mainland and the main social center- the Sand Bar.  The sand is different than sand on continental beaches- it is primarily made up of coral that has been ground down by relentless wave action.  It is very coarse and when you walk in it your feet sink down in, especially when you are in the water- you may sink past your ankles.  It's a bit difficult to walk in, but who cares since you have plenty of time here.  Click on the image to view it full-sized for better resolution.

This is also the place to go late at night on the island to get away from the lights.  The view of the sky in the southern hemisphere is fantastic, as you can see the Southern Cross, the heart of the Milky Way galaxy- the closest star to our solar system, shooting stars, and the Magellenic Clouds- two irregular galaxies that orbit our galaxy.
