Lake Tarawera & Mt. Tarawera, New Zealand
Mt. Tarawera is the flat top mountain in the distance.  In 1886, it erupted out of the blue killing 120 people that night, destroying the Pink Terraces that were a wonder of the world (similar to those in Yellowstone, but more massive), and flattening multiple villages, burying them in pyroclastic flow.  Today it looks docile, but it is merely dormant.  It will likely erupt some time in the future, though there are no signs of anything imminent.
