Maybe half an hour down the coast west-southwest of New Plymouth, it was mostly clear.  Around coastlines and mountains, and especially when you mix the two, you have microclimates- cold and blustery here, sunny and still blustery there.  So, here it was sunny, warmer, and still very windy.  You can see here the terracing effect of a hundred years or more of sheep grazing, though they are not present at the moment.  Click on the image and you should see the terracing a bit easier in 3D, and to the right is detailed inset from the picture above.
