New Plymouth, New Zealand
I did say relatively docile.  There's still no good place to swim, and rocks have been piled up along the boardwalk to prevent beach erosion.  There may be a beach or two around, I'm not sure and in any event, it was coming into their wintertime, so I wasn't looking for one.  Folks don't generally go to New Zealand for the beaches anyways- that was why we stopped off in Fiji on the way.  This is directly in front of the Waterfront Hotel.
