Le Puy, France
Visiting Le Puy was a happy accident.  I was driving from Geneva to Barcelona and got stuck in a terrible traffic jam that was a combination of traffic bound for the Cannes Film Festival and the Monte Carlo Grand Prix (why both are on the same weekend I have no idea).  I had to take back roads to avoid the traffic.  While driving, I noticed I had marked Le Puy on the map a year before (I did my homework on what sights to see) and so decided to route myself through there.  I beheld a monastery sitting on top of a pinnacle of rock (not the one shown) that was fantastic.  I hiked to the top (a lot of steps) and thoroughly enjoyed it.  I still made it to Barcelona with a little time to spare.
