High Tatras Mountains, Slovakia
The High Tatras mountains are the densest mountain range in the world.  They are a part of the Carpathian mountain range, the second largest mountain range in Europe, after the Alps.  It is a national park, and is a destination year-round for vacationers.  The park extends into Poland, who has a reciprocal park.  The date on this photo was January 4, 1993- only the fourth day of Slovakia's independence.  I spent the previous night in the town of Poprad- only about 80 miles as the crow flies from the Ukraine.  The temperature here was -8°F, or -22C.

(Thanks to a fellow named Peter Rusiňák for updated information on the park!)
