Tranekær Slot, Langeland, Denmark
This beautiful castle was built around 1200.  It was remodeled a bit in 1862, but has been in the family of Count Preben Ahlefeldt-Laurvig since 1659.  The Count still lives there.  I have one problem with the place- it's almost-but-not-quite accessibility.

The Count, it seems, wants to have his cake and eat it too.  He has opened up the nearby grounds to the public, and these grounds charge access fees.  Also, he has a museum and restaurant as well, thus also making money.  But, you cannot go onto the main grounds, and you cannot tour the castle.

While I respect his right to privacy, to tempt one all the way down here with such a nice package to offer, and then deny you the best parts- well, I have a problem with that.  I am not asking to tour the whole thing, or really tour it at all.  But, let people get better views of the castle.  This and the next two shots are the best I could manage without trespassing on the grounds.  There were a few places in which you could have gotten better views and not disturbed the family.  It seems the Count wants your money, but doesn't want to see you.

On that note, though it's neat, unless you want to fork out money for partial views and a museum-only look at the place, there are other castles to spend your time pursuing (Egeskov and Holckenhavn, for example).
