Hämeenlinna
Hämeenlinna, or Häme Castle, was started in 1260.  It served as a military base for Sweden in the eponymous town until Russian rule.  In 1837 it was turned into a jail, and remained so until the 1980's.  Today it is a museum and showpiece for the town, sitting high on the banks of the Linnasalmi.
