Doolin, Ireland
For a town of 200 people, Doolin is at the center of the Irish Music map. There are major music festivals, and during the summer Irish music plays in the pubs nightly. Even in cold & rainy October, I could not get a room here, though there are a disproportionate number of rooms for the population. O'Connor's pub in the Fisherstreet section of town (yes, there are three sections to this town) is the most famous. The pink building here is called The Sweater Shop, where I did a little shopping and talked music with the fellow working inside, who also played in a local band. I asked if there was any such group called the
Doolin Banjo's
, but was disappointing told no. However, the fellow working here had thought of that himself. So, maybe if enough people suggest it, they'll get the hint. I would have bought a CD of their material even if it sounded like a pregnant yak giving birth just to have such a named disc.
