Narvik, Norway
This little island is in Herjangsfjorden near Narvik in
the far northern part of Norway. Narvik is the site of a major WW2
naval battle between the British and Germans. The Germans lost the
initial battle, but the British had to recall their fleet for use elsewhere,
and the Germans reoccupied Narvik for five long years. Narvik is
an ice-free port (due to the Gulf Stream effects) that was a terminus for
trains from Sweden carrying ore that Germany needed.
