1944 Warsaw Uprising Monument, Poland
This slightly overexposed picture is of the Monument to the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, unveiled in 1989.  The sculpture has two parts- the soldiers in the background are defending the barricades, while the ones in the foreground are going down into the sewers.  In 1944, the insurgency used the sewer system to move around Warsaw during the uprising.  The entrance to one of the sewers is near the monument, in the middle of the street.  There is a candle burning nearby to mark the spot.  Also important to note- the President of Germany in 1994 apologized to Poland in front of this monument for starting World War II.
