View from the Campanile, Venice, Italy
Venice has to be one of the coolest cities in Europe.  The best time to go and avoid the "ugly American" tourists is in May.  The weather is nice, and the tourists aren't so many.  Even so, there was one "ugly American" that I ran across- a rather obese lady that just pushed her way through the crowd saying "'Scuze me!"  I pretended to not speak English.

This view is from the bell tower, called the Campanile, in Piazza San Marco, or St. Marks Plaza, next to the same-named cathedral.  The only way to find your way around Venice is with a map, otherwise you will get lost.  But, then, that's half the fun...
