Uffizi and Palazzo Vecchio, Florence,
Italy
Italy is one of those "ooooh" and "aaaahhhh"
countries. Within that, Florence (or locally, Firenze) is also one
of those cities. I should say that most of Europe is worth seeing,
but Italy is at the top of that list.
Spend at least two days in Florence- there are enough scenes and museums
and churches to take up your time. Unfortunately, I didn't follow
my own advice and I did not see the Uffizi museum, which is the long building
on the right side of the photograph above, in the foreground.
The Uffizi Gallery is one of the best museums in the world- up there
with the Louvre in Paris and the Museum of Archaeology in Mexico City.
The building in the background is the Palazzo Vecchio, with a 94 meter
tower (300 feet). It was built in the 14th century.
This shot was taken from the river (see maps below), shortly after dark.
