La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona, Spain
La Sagrada Familia, or The Holy Family, was the first site I visited in Barcelona.  Until that moment, I was vaguely aware of "some unfinished cathedral" that I should visit, and not too aware of Antonio Gaudi.  From this moment on I have been infatuated with his works.  I spent most of the rest of my time in Barcelona finding his structures.  This cathedral, in works since the 1920's and not slated to be finished for a long time (200 years as of 1993, although it may have been accelerated).  These towers are 375 feet tall, and the egg-shaped dome will be 50% taller yet.  That will make the cathedral about 40% of the height of the Sears tower in Chicago, or about 50 stories.  This photo was taken from one of the spires that are open to the public.
