This was the view from our hotel, which was about 30 stories tall.  I can't remember which one it was, but it was as close to the beach as you could get here.  This is actually looking back at the Corcavado from the side, and you can see the statue, which was erected for a papal visit in the 1930's.  I find the juxtaposition of this statue with the Carnival-producing city below somewhat ironic.
