Rano Raraku, Easter Island
These guys are the first moai you see up close as you start your walk. The one in the middle is the one I mentioned that only his eyes were above ground. Like some sort of ironic metaphor, these ancient statues slip slowly into the ground, the earth reclaiming the very symbols of the environmental destruction creating them wreaked.
