Although I had the crater to myself for 2 hours- pure bliss when you want to just get away from the world- eventually people will show up.  Luckily, all the tour buses come at once so you can just get it over with and get away from them.  In this case, as I was getting close to the end of my walk, about 50 or so people showed up and were clammoring around.  Although people and 3D don't get along too well, I did get a few shots in that are useful for scale.

The hordes of people tended to ruin the peacefulness of the place, and the mental image that it didn't matter what year it was- it could have been 1000 years ago.  I view such fantasy as useful and necessary- most of my life is spent in the rat race of humanity, and I even contribute to it by working for Nokia and making devices that make it even harder to get away.  Nonetheless, even if I had brought a mobile phone along, there is no coverage on the island at all.  I could not be reached no matter how hard anyone tried.  That's a vacation- losing oneself from the world.
