Poas Volcano, Costa Rica
Perhaps a 90-minute drive from San Jose, Vulcan Poas sits at 8200 feet, or about 2700m. It is still active, though not as active as Arenal, to the north. It still spews sulfur gas, which can be a bit choking at times. The aqua blue of the crater is quite cool and surreal. There is also an acid lake you can hike to (I think this one is just a bit acidic as well), but due to some trail maintenance or whatever, it was closed when we visited.
