Mayan Ruins, Chichén Itzá, Mexico
This is the famous Mayan sports field, known as the Ball Court.  They played a soccer-like game where they fielded a ball between two teams, using knees, torso, and possibly elbows, but no hands or feet.  The goals are the little hoops on the sidewalls, one of which is enlarged to the left.  I would assume that the games were long.  It is debatable what happened when the game was over- either the losing or winning team was sacrificed.  You might think that it would be punishment for losing, but it was also an honorable thing to do, so the jury's still out, the last I knew.
