Olavinlinna Finland's most beautiful castle (yes, Finland). Built by the Swedes, and modified by the Russians, this is a splendid castle in eastern Finland in the town of Savonlinna. |

Turku Castle Also built by the Swedes, this is in the coastal town of Turku. |

Egeskov Slot Denmark's most beautiful castle, complete with a moat. Located on the island of Fyn, not too far from Odense. |

Holckenhavn Slot Also located on Fyn, I gave this one high marks because it is inhabited, and they gave decent access to the grounds. Not marked on any maps, it's just south of Nyborg. |

Riveaulx Abbey Just north of York, these ruins are awesome to walk among. Replete with flying buttresses, you get a feeling that if something had not gone horribly wrong, it would still be standing. |

Tower of London One of the more famous fortresses, many people were imprisoned here and beheaded, including a famous wife of Henry the Eighth. |

Neuschwanstein The castle that inspired Walt Disney and nearly bankrupted a nation. King Ludwig went on a fantasy castle-building binge, culminating in this beauty. Never finished, it is nonetheless one of the most fantastic castles you'll ever visit. |

San Marino This fortress rings the top of Mount Titano, which is more or less all there is to the country of San Marino- one of the world's smallest. |
