| Dunnottar Castle Dunnottar Castle has perhaps the most stunning location of any castle in Scotland. Built in the 13th century by the Earl of Marischal, it withstood an eight-month seige by Oliver Cromwell and as such played an important role in Scottish History by saving the Scottish Crown Jewels.
