| Beaumaris Castle This was the last castle built by Edward I. It was finished in 1298, and the name, Beau Marais, means Beautiful Marsh. It is on the island of Anglesey, and has a complete moat surrounding it. All images ©1990, Jeffrey L. Cooper |

Caernarfon Castle Caernarfon was also built by Edward I in 1283 to dominate Wales. The castle is on the left, and part of the wall that surrounded the old city are visible on the right. Prince Charles was vested as the Prince of Wales here in 1969. Both images ©1990, Jeffrey L. Cooper |
