Whitby Abbey
Way up in the north, near the Scottish border, is Whitby Abbey, founded in
657. It was destroyed by the Danes, and rebuilt in 1078. The ruins
of the church (part of the larger castle complex) sit on a cliff
overlooking the sea and the town of Whitby.
