Port Valdez, Alaska
Port Valdez is the terminus of the famous Trans-Alaska Pipeline, which stretches from here to Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean.  This is also near the site of the infamous Exxon Valdez oil spill of 1989.  The city of Valdez had to be moved 4 miles down the road in the mid-1960's because the original city was destroyed by a tsunami generated by one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded- 9.2 on the Richter scale- that lasted for 8 minutes.
