Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas
Across the street from the Arlington is Hot Springs National Park- the only National Park to include part of a town.  This is the historic part of Hot Springs, and why I recommend staying here.  The city as a whole has a beautiful lake to the south, but again, as it seems to focus on racing, it's just not something I'm interested in.  If you're more into traveling and scenery, see this part of the town and hike in the park.

Unfortunately, I think Hot Springs could be more than it is currently.  Many of the historic buildings are empty, some boarded up and unsightly.  Perhaps the focus on other activities brings in a tourist less interested in preserving history and in scenery.  I've been told also that major floods in the early 1990's damaged the area and it hasn't bounced back.  That said, there is still quite a bit of activity on the main street- a bevy of decent restaurants and shops.  This view is from the park looking back at the main street.
