Some of the drop-offs are much higher than others.  Watch your footing here- it's a long way to "splat".  You can also see the different types of rock in the different layers.  I'm not a geologist, but the top and bottom layers look to have been ingneous (once molten), while the middle layer is sedimentary, having been deposited by water.
