This
is the world famous "Hollywood" sign, as seen from Griffith Park.
Originally the sign said "Hollywoodland" and was originally an advertisement
for a new housing division in Hollywood Hills. The 50 ft. letters
were erected in 1923, and the "land" was dropped in 1949, when the Hollywood
Chamber of Commerce took over and repaired it. In 1978 the sign was
completely replaced.
