La Brea Tar Pits
This is one of the tar pits behind the LA County Museum of Art. Most of the pits were covered in a sheet of water, which fooled the animals into wandering in to get a drink and then getting trapped. The tar bubbles up from the underlying tar lake and oozes back into the water.
