Less than an hour south of Hilo is the awesome Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home to Kilauea, the most active volcano on the planet. This is Halemaumau Crater, inside the Kilauea Caldera. In the late 1800's, it was filled and glowing with a sea of lava, witnessed by none other than Mark Twain.
