Haleakala is the main volcano that makes up Maui. We had spent the morning watching the most gorgeous sunrise we have ever seen (see separate gallery for 2D shots of that). Afterwards we explored a bit while up there. These observatories are here because it's usually clear at night, and it's very dry, and at this altitude, the light pollution isn't too bad (at least yet).
