Craters of the Moon National Monument, Idaho
Just around the corner from Inferno Cone, are a grouping of spatter cones.
They are called such because the lava that erupted from these vents came up in
basketball-sized gooey globs that stuck together and hardened, giving a very
granular appearance. At the barricade, you can peer over and down into the
mouth of one of the spatter cones.
