Crazy Horse, Custer, South Dakota
Near Mt. Rushmore, the monument to four American presidents, rises this forming monument to Chief Crazy Horse, who stood up to Custer. This monument, which dwarfs Mt. Rushmore, is privately funded, and is expected to take many decades to complete. The artist who designed it is dead. You can see the face taking shape, and the top of the arm outstretched (with a small hole cut under it). The horse's head and Crazy Horse's hair are painted on to help you imagine the final piece of artwork. When finished, it will be Crazy Horse riding his horse, in full, exquisite detail. If you are in the Black Hills region of South Dakota, you really should visit it.
