Yellowstone NP, Mammoth Hot Springs (New Blue Spring)
This is another view of the base of New Blue Spring, where the water drains. This is a surreal shot, but makes more sense in 3D. The bright white area in the center is from flowing water that is too hot for anything to survive. On either side either bacterial mats or algae (I am not sure) thrive in slightly cooler water. The trees are dead, having grown there when the water took a different path down the side of the mound.
