Fishing Cone, West Thumb Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
Fishing Cone is perhaps 10 feet offshore in Yellowstone Lake.  It is so named because in times past, maybe 100 years ago, people fished in the lake.  At this particular spot, they would catch fish next to the cone, then move over a few feet and cook the fish still on the line.  It gurgles water all the time, and occasionally erupts. Fishing is no longer allowed.  When the area was first discovered, people were destructive and climbed and clamored over all the park's anomalous features out of curiosity or to get a great photograph of themselves.
