| Bell County | |
| Belton is the county seat for Bell County. Actually, the biggest
city in the county is Temple, far larger than Belton. But the
biggest is not always the seat. This courthouse, the third for Bell County, was built in 1884, and was only two stories. In 1937 a third story was added, and so it sat for over 60 years. Then, in 1999, it had a massive makeover that included not only sandblasting the façade, but the replacement of a long-missing clock tower, making this Renaissance Revival courthouse a classic again 115 years after the original construction. ©2001, Jeffrey L.
