Comal County

The Comal County Courthouse, located in New Braunfels just north of San Antonio, is a beautiful Romanesque structure built in 1898, replacing a previous structure.  The architect was James Riely Gordon, who also designed Bexar County's courthouse (San Antonio).  This courthouse design was copied from the one in Lee county, except that that one is made of brick, thus giving it a different look.

Comal County is named for the Comal River (a very short river in New Braunfels, and is Spanish for earthen ware.
