Dallas County

Built in 1891, this is one of Texas' most splendid courthouses.  The architect was M. A. Orlopp, and the style is Romanesque Revival.  Orlopp chose blue granite from his home state of Arkansas, and red Pecos sandstone from Texas.  As a result, the building's nickname is "Old Red."

It is not currently in use, except for a Dallas travel center on the first floor.  It was restored in 1968.

This photo was taken at sunset, and shows the courthouse living up to it's nickname.
