Mission San Jose, San Antonio, Texas
Mission San Jose is my favorite mission in San Antonio.  The Alamo holds more historical significance, but for architectural beauty, this is the one to go see.  At the time, the Alamo was the only mission in San Antonio, as the other four missions were in East Texas.  They were all set up in what was then the Spanish New World.  But between disease in eastern Texas and the French, they were relocated closer to Mexico.

This mission was founded in 1720 soon after the East Texas version had failed.  The church and its environs are in the middle of a larger fortress that provided good protections against raids from local Indians.
